Acosta looked to improve their fleet costs, their biggest expense after salaries, and turned to GE, the company's lender, for assistance. After completing the ACFC training - which was provided at no charge - Acosta implemented a Six Sigma program.

Results: Three months later, Acosta was able to roll out initiatives that drove out $7 million in costs.

Six Sigma training was first offered to senior management and eventually spread through twelve plants in the U.S. and Europe, with as many as fifty Six Sigma projects underway at one time to improve business processes.

Results: Three years after ACFC first introduced Berry Plastics to Six Sigma, they have achieved $300 thousand worth of savings in 2002, and an incredible $1.5 million of savings in 2003.

One of the first ACFC projects examined working capital improvements at a portfolio company called PDM Bridge - a steel fabricator that produces components for bridge structures. The effort was primarily focused on receivables. Employees of PDM Bridge learned the Six Sigma process and had amazing results.

Mr. Gasket wanted to rev up its production processes and after two days of ACFC's intensive Work-OutTM sessions at Crotonville, a series of problem-solving paths were identified. And the company - which wasn't charged for the training - saw results just two months after implementing the solutions.
