GE Volunteers - "Good People Doing Great Things"

"The mission of GE Volunteers is to facilitate and support volunteering activities that improve life in GE Communities"

What that really means is, first every employee is a GE Volunteer. This is a benefit that belongs to everyone. Second, as volunteers, the focus is on three areas in order to make an impact. They are Education, Environment and Community Development. Education refers to programs that specifically target individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds in public schools. Environment can be anything from cleaning up public space to linking an event with GE's ecomagination initiative. Community Development is the largest focus area that encompasses programs working through the community-based health and human services programs.

Garden in Norwalk, CT.

Locally, a Global Community Day took place on June 13, 2007. There were over 100 GE Volunteers engaged in two separate projects. Approximately 60 employees facilitated activities at a SUMMER FUN DAY with approximately 130 summer campers. This day was held at Ryan Park in Norwalk, CT. We participated in conjunction with NEON; a local community - based organization. Simultaneously, across town we had 40 employees working on the beautification and restoration of the Tea Garden located in Cranbury Park. This group restored this section of the park to its original grandeur that dates back to the 1950's.

So far this year, over 300 of our GE Volunteers have participated in over 12 community service events ranging from mentoring at the Norwalk-based Jefferson Elementary School to painting and restoring the Sheffield Lighthouse on Norwalk Island.

This is all proof that GE Volunteers are good people doing great things!
